Are You Watching Quibi?
Viewers are inundated with film and TV apps and streaming options – but with stay-at-home orders still in place around the world because of covid-19, perhaps it actually IS a good time for the launch of the newest one: Quibi.
What is Quibi?
Founded by former Dreamworks boss Jeffrey Katzenberg and run by CEO Meg Whitman, Quibi stands for “quick bites.” The mobile platform – you can’t watch it on your TV – offers shortform content in both the reality and scripted realms. Each show’s installment is 10 minutes or less.
Quibi boasts that it’s the first platform with content that can be watched both vertically and horizontally (though tech firm Eko has sued over this).
Also, the fact that you can only watch Quibi content on your phone means that you can’t use your phone at the same time. What fun is quarantine without texting, Instagramming and tweeting about what you’re watching?
The Cost of Quibi
Probably the best news about Quibi is that you can try the service for free for 90 days. After the trial is over, Quibi will cost you $4.99 a month with ads or $7.99 for an ad-free experience.
Will viewers choose Quibi over Snapchat or YouTube? Time will tell.
