Drive-In Movie Theaters are Back and One Even Has Boats!
An unexpected consequence of the covid-19 pandemic is that movie lovers are returning to an old pastime: going to drive-in movie theaters! Some long-running drive-ins (the U.S. still has 300 in operation) have seen new customers join in, while new ones have popped up with outdoor movies via event companies like EventBrite.
Cinema on the Water
One company in Paris has an even cooler idea: watching a movie while floating on boats! “Cinema on the Water” hosted by Paris Plages will take place July 18 at 7:30pm. 150 lucky audience members will get to watch Le Grand Bain, a comedy about a group of men who start a synchronized swimming team.
Each boat sits 4 to 6 people and will be set far enough away from other boats so that attendees can maintain safe physical distancing.
If you’re interested in attending Cinema on the Water, you can enter the free raffle through July 15.
Outdoor Movies in London
Paris isn’t the only city where you can catch outdoor movies this summer. London is also hosting several outdoor film screenings via Free Range Film Club, Luna Cinema and Bar Elba.
Outdoor Movies in the U.S.
If you’re in the United States, where covid-19 cases have continued to climb, you can still enjoy outdoor movies too. Here are 15 options in New England, which include new documentaries as well as old classics like Goonies.
In Southern California, meanwhile, you can visit the Mission Tiki Drive-In Theatre and the Van Buren Drive-In Theatre in the Inland Empire.
The Paramount Drive-In is also just 14 miles from Downtown Los Angeles!
