Laowa Releases World’s Widest 9mm Lens

Are you looking for a unique wide angle in your filmmaking? Laowa’s 9mm lens might be a perfect fit for you.

Venus Optics has released the 9mm F5.6 FF RL, a full frame lens for mirrorless cameras that lets you shoot with a very wide angle. It also boasts very low distortion, making the lens perfect for architecture, landscape and real estate photography.

The new Laowa 9mm F5.6 FF RL is now the world’s widest rectilinear lens.

In fact, its angle is so wide that the Laowa 9mm F5.6 FF RL is now that world’s widest rectilinear lens. Here are more specs from the lens’s official site:

The remarkable 135° angle of view allows you to capture landscape images with ease and realise formerly impossible shots. The lens includes 2 aspherical elements and 2 extra-low dispersion elements to suppress chromatic aberrations and distortion to the minimum. Despite the one-of-a-kind perspective, the lens itself is super compact (2.4″ / 6cm long) and weigh only 12.3 oz. / 350 g. It also features an extremely close focusing distance of 4.72″ / 12cm (from subject to sensor) for photographers to create mini macro shots with ultra-wide perspective.

The Laowa 9mm F5.6 FF RL is available now in Sony FE, Nikon Z, L mount, and Leica M. (This is the first time Laowa has been available for Leica.) You can choose from silver or black. The lens’s price ranges from $799-$899, depending on which camera you have.
