Welcome to the FilmUp Blog!

The only thing worth getting right the first time is getting it wrong. Filmmakers and entrepreneurs know this concept all too well. It rings especially true for Aryeh Hoppenstein & Christina Chironna, co-founders of FilmUp.

FilmUp is a collaboration between two friends and filmmakers with a goal to improve the world through film. The duo hopes to create a new kind of film community based around filmmakers supporting one another — instead of competing.

Aryeh and Christina have faced failure, pivots, endless fundraising, and a successful launch to bring FilmUp to its current form. FilmUp is now home to a network of students, businesses, amateur filmmakers, and professional filmmakers in all fields of the industry.

So, mission accomplished — the first step, anyway!

The birth of FilmUp

Aryeh and Christina, CEO and COO respectively, began FilmUp in 2014. They were trying to devise a way to link the worlds of film and philanthropy. Today, their idea has evolved into the newest social networking platform made for filmmakers by filmmakers, and the film industry is taking notice.
For our inaugural post, here’s a little bit about our co-founders and the launch of our latest feature, the FilmUp blog.

Christina Chironna

Christina grew up in Norwalk, CT with two younger sisters, two labs, and a very close extended family — 19 first cousins on her father’s side, alone. Before FilmUp, she began her career as a production coordinator – then manager – at Jay-Z’s production company, Scheme Engine. There, she co-produced several documentaries including Kygo’s, Stole The Show which quickly rose to number one on iTunes.

“I think it’s very rare that you find someone who compliments you professionally and completely aligns with your values and vision. I’m extremely grateful for Aryeh, I wouldn’t want to be on this journey with anyone else.”

Aryeh Hoppenstein

Aryeh grew up in Westchester, NY with two older brothers, two younger sisters, and a cat one of his sisters named when she pointed at it and exclaimed “Bear!” His parents met at Ithaca College, where Aryeh and Christina would also meet and start FilmUp. He tries to watch at least one movie a day, and his grandfather was the photographer for The Godfather.

“A company is founded on a series of rejections. It’s how you take those rejections and let them redirect you that’s important.”
